February 2016 - Year 5 trip to the STEAM museum

29th February 2016

On the 29th February Year 5 went on a special trip to the STEAM museum in Swindon as part of their World War 2 topic. All the children dressed up as evacuees for the day and brought their gas masks with them just in case of a gas attack. While we were in Swindon, the children experienced what it was like to spend the night in a public air raid shelter and were evacuated to the British countryside.
They also looked at the museum exhibits which showed how the Great Western Railway carriages were created and what life was like for those who worked in the warehouses there.
We were very impressed with the effort the children made with their clothes and how they behaved throughout the day. They have learned so much throughout this topic about life during the war and it was great to see them use their knowledge to answer and ask insightful questions of our guides.
“It was best trip yet at Wicklea Academy!” said Millie in Maple class.
