Bloom's Taxonomy

When planning and teaching, Wicklea teachers use ideas from the philosopher Benjamin Bloom. All teachers use this approach to develop the children’s thinking skills. Our success criteria for each lesson explain to children how they can be successful learners and how they can extend and challenge themselves.

Benjamin Bloom explains that thinking can be different levels of difficulty. He says that the easiest thinking skills are remembering and understanding. Then it is more difficult to apply and to analyse. Finally it is most challenging to evaluate and create. This forms the basis of a child's journey through our curriculum.
