World Hunger Day

15th June 2018

On the last day of term 5, children at Wicklea commemorated World Hunger Day. We learned about how every child has the right to the best possible health, this includes nutritious food (United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child article 24). Each year group planned and carried out different activities to learn about this, on a global, national and local scale. Y3 wrote letters to encourage people to donate to food banks. Y4 planned an afternoon tea to raise money for a charity, Action Against Hunger. Y5 wrote to Sainsbury's to encourage them to waste less food and Y6 demonstrated their understanding of the issue by making posters and also wrote to ZaZa Bazzarre to persuade them to donate any lefot over food at the end of the day, rather than throw it away.

As part of their World Hunger Day activities, Year 4 planned an afternoon tea to raise money for Action Against Hunger. The children baked, made sandwiches, practised songs and made presentations to entertain the visitors. The afternoon was a great success, and we raised £70 for the charity. Thank you to everyone who attended or made donations.
